Face-lifts aren’t a good fit for people with specific health problems, and not everyone wants to undergo an invasive procedure to get younger-looking skin. Thread lifts are a cheaper,  minimally-invasive way to address sagging skin and wrinkles without surgery.

What Is a Thread Lift?

Thread lifts help lift and tighten your skin. Your healthcare professional uses dissolvable sutures that are drawn taut to lift and sculpt the area being treated. People with early signs of aging in their 30s to early 50s are good candidates for thread lifting.1

The thread-lifting process triggers your body to create more collagen, the protein that helps with elasticity and structure. Loss of collagen is a leading cause of skin aging, so thread lifts offer a noninvasive way to make your skin look smoother.

Thread Lift Treatment Areas

Thread lifting can tighten your skin and change your look in several areas of your face, including the following:2

  • Nose: To help with slimming or straightening
  • Neck: To smooth lines or lift loose skin
  • Eyes: To create a fox eye or cat eye look by lifting the eyelids toward the temple
  • Eyebrows: To tighten skin and lift furrowed or sagging eyebrows

Talk to your doctor to see if other treatments with thread lifts will give you your desired results. For example, you may choose to get dermal fillers in addition to a nose thread lift.

What to Expect During a Thread Lifting Procedure

Before your thread lift, your doctor marks the areas of your face where lifting will occur. You receive a topical anesthetic to reduce pain. They then use small needles called cannulas to insert the threads under your skin and draw them tight. This could take between 30 and 45 minutes.3

You may feel pressure or tightening from the procedure, but once your doctor removes the needles, you can go home.

What To Expect After Your Thread Lift

You may see some results from your thread lift procedure immediately. There may be some bruising and swelling, but as that clears up, you will see more improvement in your skin over the following days and weeks. The effects of your treatment could last between one and three years.
