Many people know the frustration of having that one stubborn spot in the body that won’t slim down despite exercise and dieting. As exasperating as it is to see that in the mirror, it might not be enough to make you consider liposuction or other invasive procedures.

One non-invasive technique for reducing targeted fat deposits is cryo slimming. Cryolipolysis, also known by the brand name CoolSculpting, is a procedure that uses intense cold to destroy fat cells. It’s a popular alternative to fat reduction surgery.

What Is Cryo Slimming?

Cryo slimming is a simple procedure that can be performed in your doctor’s office. It doesn’t require anesthesia, and there is no downtime after treatment. The procedure usually takes about an hour.

Ideal candidates for cryo slimming are at a healthy weight. The procedure treats localized fat deposits, and it doesn’t work for overall body slimming.1

When you go in for treatment, your doctor will mark the area to be treated. They will then apply a protective gel pad to the skin and set the applicator over it. The applicator will use suction to pull the fatty area inside its opening. It then begins cooling to bring the treatment area to a target temperature of between 30 and 39 degrees Fahrenheit to destroy fat cells.2

The process may cause sensations like pressure, stinging, or burning, but they are usually tolerable. Most people can relax and watch TV or use their phones during treatment. You can resume normal activity after your appointment.

Is Cryo Slimming Effective?

You won’t see results right away after a cryo slimming appointment. It takes up to 6 months for your body to remove the damaged fat cells. Generally, a single cryo slimming treatment can reduce the size of a fat deposit by 20%.3

Some people may need more than one treatment to get the results they want.

Is Cryo Slimming Safe?

Cryo slimming is typically safe. There are no incisions, so there is no risk of an infection. However, it can result in sagging skin or uneven fat reduction.

One rare but serious side effect is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, in which fat cells increase in the treated area, causing it to appear larger and bulging rather than slimmer.4

Cryo Slimming Cost

The cost of cryo slimming ranges from $600 to $1,000 per treatment.5 Ask your doctor about total costs and payment plans
